Holiday in Jamaica

Hi everyone

I am in a bit of a dilemma so I hope yall can help.

Basically I am going out to Jamaica in August for a couple of weeks..and I have a quote, I need to know if I can get it anywhere cheaper or if you think it is better to do last minute...the details are as follows

2 adults
LON- MBJ (Montego Bay) 1-21 August
Staying at Sandcastles in Ocho Rios on a bed and breakfast basis.

I have been quoted £2100 for flight and the villa.

That is for both of us so it would be £1050 for me...

What should I do because I need to put the deposit down by this weekend...???

Thanks guys

QT ;)

It's been some years since Ive been to Jamaica but I can't imagine it has changed that much. Firstly you are going during hurricaine and rainy seasons, altho when it rains it is normally for half an hour the hurricaines I can't vouch for :p When the good lady and I were there (we are well travelled by the way) we were all inclusive which I am frankly glad to say we were. You get the normal hassle (which is not a complaint) from the locals as soon as you step outside, you have to bear in mind these people have far far less than ourselves and look for an easy buck. Also it wasn't really safe to go out at night unless the Hotel got a taxi for you and took you too recommended places, no where off the beaten track.

I stayed at Sandcastles in 1999. 1 Bed room self-catering. About £700 each for a fortnight in August. What type of room are you in?
    Studio, 1 Bed or (2 Bed). http://www.sandcastlesochorios.com/accomodations.html

Price probably ok taking inflation into account from 1999 to 2007, but without shopping around, it's never a certainty.

Yep, I'll echo all of that.

DO NOT wander off at the airport when you land to buy water etc..........I made that mistake because my wife was thirsty. I was offered drugs by three different individuals and they will take advantage of the fact that you're tired by saying you're offending their culture by refusing.

DO NOT get money out at the airport........I made that mistake and some guy pointed at it and said "that's mine, you teef it" (stole it).

It's a lovely place but the locals don't do the island's reputation any favours.

For example, on a daytrip to Kingston the girl in front of us was feeling ill and asked if she could open one of the minibus windows.........she was told "definitely not" because if we had to stop at any red traffic signals then she would find a gun thrust at her throat and her bag and jewellery taken.....apparently these guys come from nowhere and it's a perfectly normal occurrence.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.
  • hi,

my wife and i went about 5 years ago to jamaica, and just waited on teletext holidays on the telly (you can also get the tv pages on the web to speed things up!). I waited and waited, as there were loads of offers available, and I finally booked the deal on Friday evening, departing Sunday afternoon!

The price, if I remember correctly, was about £500 per person, for 2 weeks all inclusive. It was a Thompson allocated on arrival deal, at least 3*. We were very fortunate, and had a really nice hotel, and were upgraded to the huge honeymoon Suite, complete with 4 poster and balcony directly overlooking the Caribbean.

Not sure whether you can still do these deals, or whether you could take the risk of not getting the right deal though.......
