Cancelling car insurance with Admiral

I have an annual car insurance policy with Admiral that has still got about 8 months to go - I am going to sell my car soon and don't plan to buy another one.
If I cancel my policy Admiral will charge me a cancellation charge in the region of £40.
Is there any way of getting round this in order to avoid paying the charge?
Any help would be much apprciated.
Thanks

Prob not. If you are in the first year with an insurance company and you cancel within that first year they will often charge a cancellation fee or similar rather than giving you a pro-rata return to reflect the increased admin costs in the first year e.g. providing quote, issuing documents etc.
They may waive it if you have any other cover with them or write to them saying that due to circumstances etc etc you have to sell the car but will go back to them when you are able to buy another one. Give them a sob story. Worth a go. Good luck.0 -
Most insurers will allow you to suspend the cover, and pay a reduced amount whilst doing so.
This is unlikely to save more than their pro-rata refund less £40.
I'd just grin and bear it.0 -
i used to work for admiral, tell them that you will either
a) Be buying a really souped up hot hatch with bodykit, spoliers etc so they wont insure you, so therefore cancel pro rata.
b) Tell them that you are buying a motorbike, hence again they wont cover that.
c) Suspend your policy so no more payments, and reactivate it a few days before renewal, this then will allow that years no claims bonus too. But you do have to insure a car with them before your renewal or they will backdate cancellation
hope this helpsTrophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!0 -
