alliance and leicester direct saver account

has anyone else had trouble transfering money from their regular bank into their alliance and leicester direct saver (or any account come to that). i was told that they can request the amount from my regular bank as i was having trouble tranfering funds from my smile account (there is no space on smile transfers to put in ref number which you have to do as everyone gets given the same account number and sort code, your money then goes into a giant 'holding account' and they use the ref number to establish who you are and put the money eventually into your personal account). it has been over a week now and the money has not even been requested form smile yet. is this just a hassle or is it worth pursueing as they have a good interest rate? feed back would be helpful
thanks
emma

The first direct debit request will take 8 working days to process (subsequent ones take 4).

I have had no problem, though I don't bank with Smile. As the above poster points out, they do say that the first DD will take 8 days though.

If you search for a post by me called 'Direct Saver - Warning' you will see I had the exact same problem. Takes even longer to clear!

Seems you money just sits there doing nothing for a few days, mighty annoying!

Mmmmmmm interesting I did my first tranfer from Smile to the A+L last night, for a nominal amount, I wonder how long it will take to credit.

It takes me 2 and a half weeks for it to become avaliable in my account. Shows after 4-5 working days after I tell it to transfer. But that don't mean it's avaliable.
