dilema possible job

hmm have the lurgy and cant sleep

A friend emailled me a job advertised, which she thought i might be able to do.

SCHOOL MEALS SUPERVISORY ASSISTANT

£6.6278 per hour

12.30 - 2.00pm [7.5hrs per week]

Monday to Friday, Term Time Only

Required as soon as possible to supervise students
during the lunchtime period.
The successful person will be joining an experienced and
friendly team.

i want to ring up and apply..
but.... Honestly i don't think i could survive on £49.71 a week term only.

I wouldn't get wtc (am i right you can't get any under 16 hours a week)

ctc would be reduced wouldnt it?
i would have to pay a portion of rent and council tax.

if i apply for this rather than through a disabled advisor then i would lose out on any back to work help financially...

I'm not even thinking of what the job entails as i used to be a dinner lady years ago which consisted on washing up...

This i think is more supervising the pupils and then tidy up.. which may mean moving tables and stacking chairs, and standing up for 1 and a half hours..

I did say i would consider anything.. but am i making a rod for my back.

    Xmas Saver!
    I may be wrong, (apologies if I am), but my guessing is, if your a single parent, as you wouldn't get wtc as not 16hrs per week, and if your on income support, then it would be classed as keeping the first £20 and then losing pound for pound, not sure how much would affect your hb etc.

    If you’re only working 7.5 hrs. per week then you would receive Full CTB and maximum HB/LAH (subject to circumstances). This would additionally be topped up by JSA or ESA (again subject to circumstances). There are permitted work rules for working whilst claiming ESA. It may be possible to claim the full ESA rate and work the 7.5 hrs. for up to 52 weeks. Moreover, if you still claim ESA-Income related and work then you may receive full CTB (council tax benefit), maximum HB/LAH (subject to circumstances) and CTC (child tax credits). If not claiming ESA and your work is being topped up by JSA-Income Based then CTC will not be reduced. In order to understand these often complex areas please see an advisor at your local CAB for a ‘what if calculation’.

    Disregard first £20 of earnings for JSA-IB if:
    • person is a lone parent;
    • person or partner:
      • is receiving disability premium; or
      • would receive disability premium but is in hospital, residential care home, nursing home, board and lodging accommodation, home for persons in need or other residential accommodation;
    • person or partner:is entitled to a higher pensioner premium, or would receive it and is in hospital; and
      • is at least the qualifying age for PC; and
      • immediately before reaching the qualifying age for PC was working and entitled to a £20 disregard; and
      • is continuing to work part-time (breaks of eight weeks or less when work is given up or benefit ceases will be ignored);
    • couple, and entitlement to JSA(IB) would include disability premium but for the fact that:
      • one person qualifies for higher pensioner premium (save for being in hospital); and
      • the other person is under the qualifying age for PC ; and
      • either person is in employment;
    • couple, where:
      • one member qualifies for the higher pensioner premium; and
      • immediately before reaching the qualifying age for PC, one member of the couple was in part-time employment and entitled to a £20 disregard because of entitlement to the disability premium;
    Don't thank me, thank my post :T

    But if you're shortly to lose your ESA then you'll be £49.71 better off by taking this job.

    I work in a school 5 hours a week, and when I lost my other jobs just before summer I could have left the school with no penalty from the JCP. However, I kept the job because, 1. I don't like doing nothing, 2. it's easier to get work if you're in work, 3. I enjoy it.

    No, I wasn't any better off, in fact probably worse off because it costs petrol to get there, but a job is a job at the end of the day. Anything is better than nothing.
    Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:

    This is the way i am looking at it..

    my local bakery is looking for part time production, just rang to enquire about it.... unfortunately not something i would be able to cope with. 22.5 hours mon - fri 10 - 2.30 various work, lifting is part of the job... would of had a go if i could, but i know it is beyond what i can do... so if someone is in Bristol and looking for a part time job, it's parsons bakery, job isnt on their website but can confirm there is a part time job still available. Good luck
