You claim them off one form and they'll assess you for both and then pay what's due - if your working and have children then if your incomes too high for WTC, you'll get an award of £0 WTC and £X amount of CTC.

You need to ring the tax credit helpline

it seems to be extremely difficult to actually get a claims form from elsewhere
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

ring 0845 3003900 the tax credit line, but look on https://www.saynoto0870.com as they list free phone / landline numbers and i do beleive there is one for the tax credits which will cost you less.
just look under inland revenue on the site..

As CIS said you do not apply separately for either. You apply for tax credits on 1 form.

If you are eligible and according to your individual circumstances as given by you on the form the TCO award you certain elements of working and child tax credits and add all the elements together to come up with a total figure. Then your income is used to taper down the total amount to what you are actually going to receive.

  • jock, hope you don't mind me doing a small hijack of your post (waited til your post above saying you're receiving a form).

I've just received letter today declining my appeal for an alledged 2003-2004 overpayment. Their sole reason is that they state I had a partner. This is incorrect and where they've even come up with suggestion that I had partner is a mystery. No one ever visited my home and I never stayed overnight anywhere but my own home with my children. No lodgers, no male friends calling, not even my brothers.

They say I can reappeal but the onus is on me to prove I wasn't part of a couple. They have no name or details for this mystery man but quote a phone call apparently they received in January 2004 asking to stop the claim. Well it wasn't me and I'll did out my phone bill to show I didn't make any such call.

Surely they can't just pull an imaginery partner out of thin air with no evidence and just say tough, it's on our screens so as far as we're concerned he exists.

    Any suggestions please?
