    Hi, I can't give you an in depth answer, because I simply don't know the regulations on this sort of thing. But I can tell you that we had an annexe built by way of a two storey extension to our semi-detached house, and because there's a doorway through to the annexe from the ground floor and the first floor, we are not liable to pay an additional council tax charge.

    Sorry, I know that's probably not much help.

    My understanding was that if there is no separate front door, or there is an internal adjoining door (as per the post above) then there is no additional council tax to pay.
  • When we moved into our house the annexe was counted as a separate dwelling and attracted its own council tax bill.

    I asked for the valuation office to look at the property and they removed it as a separate dwelling. Our annexe has an adjoing door and a 2 separate entrance doors.
