Howdens ovens

We are going to get an oven for a new house, and our plumber has said he can get one from Howdens.

We'll eventually extend the kitchen, but of course will need a basic oven (electric) and gas hob in the meantime.

The trouble is, no prices are shown on their website. Not really wanting to bothger the plumber at the moment, until we mive in, so if wer pick up an appliance brochure from the local store, what is the approx. discount for trade on appliances please.

I previously worked in the trade myself and it was quite shocking to see how much discount was available for kitchen cabinets ... makes you wonder if anybody would pay the full amount.

Any price guidelines would be greratly appreciated.

A price for a basic single oven and an equally basic gas hob

the previous owner of the house we are moving to, had only a small portable oven.

I think you would be better off getting appliances from somewhere else other than Howdens. Their Lamona range is not very good, and the Bosch appliances they sell are probably more expensive than other places.

Firstly, thanks for your quick reply

Do you have any suggested retailer ?

Normally we like to buy from John lewis, but as these will probably be in less than a year, we just need somewhere "cheap 'n cheerful." It was actually the plumber who mentioned Howdens .. we would probably not have even thought about them.

Would you think better to buy from a 'DIY' type store or a normal retail shop ?

Have a look at the Dixons website, even though Currys are the sister company they are always cheaper and there is free delivery.

    Excellent cstomer service too.

    Dont buy Lamona utter crap.

McKneff beat me to it. Have a look at the likes of Dixons, Curry, Comet, etc. I was trying to be polite about the Howdens Lamona range of appliances. lol.

I wouldn't buy Lamona from Howdens either. Not a chance. ANnd I agree about the Bosch ones too - Howdens aren't competitive at all.

If you want cheap and cheerful then I'd go to Ikea. Their appliances represent great value for money (usually made by Whirlpool or Electrolux) and come with a five year guarantee which is better than John Lewis! Their ovens start from £119! If you want even more cheap and cheerful then see what they've got in their Bargain Corner. There's often stuff still in the box but the ex-display stuff is often reduced by another 40% or so.

    Hi

Why do you want a cheap and cheerful oven? won't you need an oven in the new extended kitchen? If so get the oven you want for the new kitchen now, then you will save your self the cost and trouble of the cheap stuff.

Whitebox Uk have some good deals on the net based in Maidenhead but supplied to me in the north.

I brought brand new from them delivered by the "manufacturer" no problems. Beat all the retail outlets and most online retailers too.

I bought the Bosch one from Howdens but before that I priced them up at Currys, The same model at Currys was £30 more expensive,
the salesman told me I was getting a bargain if I could get it at that price from Howdens so I just got it delivered with the rest of my Kitchen.
