Debt company asking for proof of adress

is it your debt-- yes or no-- if its not proof of identity will allow the case to be closed for your name attached to your new address with the debt and it will be sent back to the client0

Hi guys and girls.
So i sent me letter about a month ago to Fredrick (the ones who placed the default) stating that i believe they have the wrong person and the fact they are asking me to verify my address as the one they have on file is different shows that they dont know who they are contacting.
I have had no response of them so i am confused what to do now???
Im tempted to just send a letter saying if i pay 50% of it would they be willing to remove it, even though i don’t acknowledge the debt it would really help me get my mortgage.
Would anyone recommend this?
Any help appreciated guys.0 -

I wouldn't even consider paying a debt if it wasn't mine.Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that she is pink; we logically know that she is invisible because we can't see her."0 -
I agree with Millie Millsters and other posters. If the debt is yours, pay it. If not, don't. You haven't made it clear.0

You said earlier on that the default was to Arrow Global. Are Frederickson collecting for Arrow Global? Surely Arrow were the ones who placed the deafult on your file and you should be writing to them using the address given at the end of your credit report.
If you make a payment in full & final settlement, that counts as acknowledgement and the default will definitely stay on your file for six years, and would probably also get a partial settlement flag. So, no, I don't recommend that.
For those who suggest just paying it off, I repeat: 'the op doesn't even know what this debt is. Arrow have bought some account from someone, slapped a default on the OP's credit file and then refused to explain themselves. If the OP just pays it off, it encourages this sort of behaviour and you or I might be next.'0 -
If you have doubts about the seriousness of the company requesting this "arrow global company" then don't send them proof of address. But reply to their correspondence with your statement refusing the debt, best as a recorded letter.0

Hi savepete & fatbelly
So I have sent out the letter saying i do not acknowledge the debt and that they should remove it. i also stated i am not obliged to provide my address details. I sent the letter recorded delivery so i know they received it however its been over 6 weeks now and i have not had a reply.
As you guys seem to know what your talking about i was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to do next? I was planning on resending the letter to them ???
Fatbelly, reference your previous email i was concerned about paying them of as it would start the default again, it was registered defaulted in Nov 2006 so is due to fall of this time next year however i really really want a mortgage in January so would like to move on with this. The rest of my credit history is fine. Would be nice if arrow global just replied to me at this stage!!!
Any helps appreciated as always guys!0 -
Send it again, this time special delivery (signed for). Get the POD off the internet when it's done. Add a new bit to the letter stating that a reply is required within 14 days or else you will have no alternative but to start taking more serious action. You then write a letter to the OFT stating the facts of the case and that the company refuses to acknowledge your polite request to remove the default (since it isnt yours) or provide apropriate evidence that it is. You then write to both Experian and Equfax disputing the default and ask what their proceedure is to remove it.
Just keep banging out the letters, be pro-active. You wont get what you want unless you force their hand.

especially the bit about a 'default warning letter' which you *should* have received had the default been yours.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

hi guys
i have sent the letter again as you said. i showed them all previous correspondence so wait and hear from then. typically they have replied to my last letter today saying the exact same as the last one
'we thank you for your previous correspondence to which has been noted, as previously indicated we are unable to comply with your request as you informed us of a different address under the data protection act 1998 we are required to verify this address, therefore we would appreciate it if you could send the following;
it then goes on to list several ways of proving my address.
Il wait till I hear of the letter I sent yesterday but I imagine they will just send me this again.
Man whys it so hard with these guys L0 -
Because they're idiot robots. Stick to your guns. They are required to prove the debt and if they cannot, it's not your problem. Tell them that you will begin more stringent proceedings if they persist in being numpties. Personally, I'd start drafting the complaint letters to the OFT. I would also draft the letters to Experian and Equifax but first, get their proceedures. They will have appropriate courses of action in this case and you can begin proceedings to remove the default from your file. Don't hold your breath though, it's an up hill battle all the way since they will be convinced that the default is yours. Read through the link I gave you too, that might be a useful loop hole you can exploit.
I might also be inclined to hit them with a small claims writ for your expenses, time and effort writing letters etc. That'll get some attention and prove you're serious, but give the normal channels a try first.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
