Which depending on the amount borrowed may be cheaper than the amount charged at other banks.
An overdraft of £2500 with the halifax would equate to a rate of 365/2500 = 14.6%

I'm quite happy with my fee free £250 overdraft with First Direct. :)

Paying £1 per day for an overdraft !

dont i know it. But my credit wasnt good enough to just 'move banks'. no one else would match the overdraft which was £1250. I have now got it to £200 in debit, which took a lot of budgeting to get there but means i dont pay the fees anymore after this month

But you have the Ultimate Reward Account which you pay £15 a month for?
(I'm assuming this as you said you had a £300 free overdraft)
Do you need the "benefits" it offers?
  • actually yes i do make use of the benefits, the iphone insurance and the breakdown cover, also used the travel ins this year. even if i didnt, i would then have also had to pay a fee for the £300 overdraft instead of not paying for that even

Do you make sure you credit the account with £1k a month to generate the £5 'reward'?

Couldn't you get separate travel insurance, breakdown cover and phone insurance for less than £120 per year anyway ? I've never bothered with phone insurance myself, i always felt it was a bit unneccessary but then again i've never had a problem with a phone. Might feel differently if i had i suppose.

I think because of the Halifax computer change recently their billing period is longer this month. Both me and my hubby have student accounts with Halifax and we've both been charged £33 this month, but last month charges were taken on 29th September and this month 1st November so that's why there's an extra 2 days worth to pay for.

Really? I just googled iPhone insurance and the first hit was "All Apple iPhone Models £64.00/year (£5.33 a month)".

However, my phone in insured under the home contents insurance, as are all my expensive gadgets. Works out about ~£30/year extra.
