  • Try Wilkinsons - my branch (colchester) were much cheaper than that - three tuber packs were £2.50 (I got mixed cactus type, but they had a wide range of named varieties for this price), I think single tubers were either £1 or £1.50.....and although I don't remember the details, they had multibuy discounts too.
  • If you don't mind dwarf dhalias why not grow them from seed. One packet from Wilko is approx 60p and gives loads. They germinate very easily.

As they grow in the summer the rots form tubers then you can dig them up to use again next year.

Smaller flowers I know but good for cutting

I usually get mine from the local garden centre - nice dwarf dahlias for £2.99 for a pack of 5. btw - the single flowers attract bees but the doubles don't so bear this in mind when choosing.

3 Bishop of Llandaff for £5.45 is good. They are beautiful when in flower. I only have one and it grew to be massive last year. It was about a metre high and half a metre wide with continual flowers - I am too busy to keep picking so I guess it didn't mind and just kept flowering!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I've grown from seed too and it was a doddle. Not sure if they were dwarf as it was a while ago but they were pretty big as were the flowers (plants around 5ft) By the end of the summer the tubers were absolutely massive, I didn't dig them up and they still came back the following year. This is in the north west midlands.
Poundland are selling various bulbs and dahlia tuber now not sure how many in a packet though. I love poundland

Two years ago I bought a 19p packet of dahlia seeds from Netto and they did really well and some came back last year. We didn't even move them inside over winter, which would have increased the survival rate. I have bought some more this year. They are very easy to germinate and give an impressive display.

Thanks for all of your advice, Just got 10 packs from Wilkinsons they were cheaper. I noticed the pound shops have just started to get Lily bulbs and single colour Gladioli in (the mixed never look right in my Jungle garden). I think i will make the trip to J parkers though for 9 of the Bishop of Llandaff for £10.90 they just flower so well in my garden.

    Thanks

I bought my Bishop of Llandaff from Parkers 3 years ago.
They seem to get better each year, and lovely dark foliage that contrasts with the Red flowers.

I went to J Parkers (see above post) On Chester Road, Manchester and the Bishop Of Llandaff were on sale at £8.16 for 9 instead of £10.90 0n the website. All of the other bulbs offers on the website were cheaper instore as well, and i didn't pay postage.
The New catalogue on the counter had a Daily Mail logo printed on it as well so look out for offers coming up there.
Worth the trip if it's local to you
