Car Finance! - Help

Hi,
I am after some help / advice on a car i recently bought from a dealer.

I bought the car just under 3 weeks ago (more than 14 days), I paid £500 up front and remainder on finance, however, after 7 days there were problems which needed fixing, and the car has been with them for 7 days to get fixed.

while in there hands, the car did over 100 miles (which to me was excessive considering they should be fixing the car 8 miles away), also they did not fix everything and are playing hard on fixing the remaining parts.

The other problem I have is that I am still to sign the log book or receive the MOT certificate from them (I know this was stupid!!) however, at the time of receiving the car, they said private number plates were being taken off and were waiting on the new book to come back. I had the car HPI checked etc before i bought it and this came back clear so assumed this wouldnt be a big deal at the time - however, now thinking do i get the police or anyone involved as a legal matter??

As i say almost 3 weeks have passed, and I am really annoyed at not receiving documentation and do no longer trust the work they do on the car.

Is there anything i can do by way of cancelling or am i stuck??

I have an invoice for the sale of the vehicle which is signed etc if that helps - and all the service books for the vehicle.

Thanks

Mark

  • Also, the initial deposit was paid by credit card if that helps also.

Im sure your HP company is as liable as the dealer to have repairs done within the first 6 months of purchase. Its up to them to prove the fault did not exist before selling you the car, after 6 months you need to prove the fault was present at sale, and did not agree to accept it in that condition.

Re your log book, I once bough a car from a dealer, i never signed the log book but within a week or so i had been sent one. (I guess the dealer went to a dvla office to have mine, and others fast tracked) You should have been provided the MOT with all the other paperwork.

I'm also sure you could complaint under section 75 to your credit card company as the deposit was paid by them.

As for the private number plate issue, they should not have sold you the car until they had it registered. What number plate is on your car just now?? I also find this odd as the finance company would need to know this so they could do their checks etc.

No really sure where to go with that part, have you spoke to the dvla?

hi I have private plates on my cars, if the dealer takes it to the dvla office its done within a few days for the purpose of fitting plates. the log book and mot certificate need re-issuing by the dvla with the old plate on it. It takes about 4-6 weeks. Trust me I have done it 3 times and its a pain in the butt,
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It's hard to judge without details.
I've been waiting for genuine parts from Japan for 3-4 weeks.
Are parts out of stock? What's the issue.
We can't judge without more info.
while in there hands, the car did over 100 miles
Have you asked them about this?
    What did they say?
It does seem excessive for test driving.

It's difficult if you lose faith but they have to be given the opportunity to put things right.
I'd be chasing them - be asssertive, but also polite.
  • Hiya, thanks for the advice, basically I had checked by a friend who is a mechanic who said it needed bottom bars and rear break shoes, they fixed the bars but not the shoes which still need fixing, so it took them a week to fix that and do 100 mile in it (garage is only 8mile away from dealers.
The first guy said they would replace this but now they are refusing, saying they had to get the parts etc which I told them they did not have permission to do that and just test the new parts.
  • I'm going to ring the hp company tomorrow to see what they say. Just losing a bit faith really and don't want to end up losing out if it all goes wrong so just curious where I stand if things don't get sorted. Thanks for all the advice so far, it's been really helpful and much appreciated

im sure brake shoes are not covered by warranty and may need to be replaced at your own expense.

  • I'm told its just pads and discs that aren't covered and the shoes are, plus they accepted to do it 2 weeks ago but didn't actually fix it, so surely they have already accepted liability for it?

Well yeah, if they agreed then they should repair
