Interestingly, the title of this thread is called "NSE News". Not sure what the N stands for; Martin, what else are you the expert at saving - noodles? Nickels? Nincompoops?

    Norwegian School of Economics?;)

  • Really disappointed these banknotes are still so big (or at least wide). They stick out of normal wallets and get dog-eared.

£50 notes are a bit like Father Christmas - heard they exist but not seen one....
  • I don't like them, it used to be the case that some places did not like accepting them as the risk of receiving a forged note and subsequently losing a lot of money in the process was high.

Maybe these new security features will keep forgers at bay for the time being until they can work their way around the new features. I'll never say never, just a matter of time I think.

    First-world problems :D

Reminds me of that bit on Friends where Chandler says "Oh, no! Two women love me. They're both gorgeous and sexy. My wallet's too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight!"
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I've seen a few £50 notes...because I work on a till! :rotfl: At least the new security measure will make them easier to check.

My previous Epson printer didn't allow me print copies of banknotes. It would only print out part of the image and a URL, possibly this one: http://www.rulesforuse.org/.

Interestingly my newer (well, I think it's about two years old now) Epson printer is quite happy to print copies of bank notes. :)

One method used to prevent reproduction is having the software recognise the EURion constellation found on many notes.

Anyway, back on topic - I don't recall ever possessing a £50 note.

The Citibank cash machines in Canada Square at Canary Wharf (the one outside, and the ones in the shopping centre at least) dispenses £50 notes if you withdraw more than £100. I found that out to my dismay once upon a time, although the places I tried in the shopping centre didn't seem to mind taking them.

That's the closest cash machine to where I live so I spend a fair number of 50s. I've never had a problem spending them anywhere - no matter how far north I go. I've concluded that the whole 'not accepting 50s' thing is a myth.

I've had two £50 notes in my life. Got paid £100 for fixing the computer of a friend of my uncle in London.

Went back home to Liverpool and nobody would take it, half the shops didn't even know what it was and even my local bank looked at me like I was trying to rip them off although they did grudgingly accept them, thus allowing me to go to the cash machine and withdraw the money in the form of £20 notes that I could actually spend.

I'm sure this note will be equally useful to those who live outside the south east :)
