Can I return a fire?

I bought a fire for just over 1K from a fireplace store. The one on display has a large golden flame, however, mine is tiny in comparison and it doesn't seem to omit much heat at all. The fire had a fault when it was fitted and an engineer came to fix it. They claim it's fixed now but there is a glaring difference between the one on display and mine. Also, it looks different because you can see right through my fire to the outside (through the flue). Basically this means looking at the fire, there is a visible hole outside.. this is hidden on the display model as they have sprayed it black so that it doesn't relect the daylight through into the fireplace.
Can I get it replaced or return it? The store say I can't

Given you've already had repairs, how long have you had the fire for?
The flue issue I imagine can be solved with paint as they did, the question of the flame size I imagine is fairly a poor arguement but the issue of heat output could certainly be an argument that it is either faulty or not fit for purpose. Subject to how long you've had it it is either up to them to prove it is ok or its up to you to prove it isnt.0 -
Hi. Thanks.
The fact that the flame size pales into comparison to the display model suggest to me the heat output isn't what it ought to be. It's a modern hang on wall fire so aesthetics were important. I wanted a nice large gas flame like the one I saw when I bought it. All I have is a flame about two inches tall and mostly blue.
The flue will always be visible on my fire whether they spray it or not. Unfortunately, the one on display has a flue that goes back about 2 metres so you cannot even see it due to darkness and the black spray. What has annoyed me is the guy who sold it me told me how good it was and how it would have a good output. Now he tells me I shouldn't expect it to heat the room without the aid of central heating.0 -
You didnt answer how long you've already had it for?0

It got fitted about 2 mOnths ago but it wasn't working. They sent an engineer out to fix the problem. I had already complained before the fire was working about it's appearance and then after about the output0

In that case, I'd write them a letter telling them you are rejecting it and require them to arrange collection.0

How lon ago was it repaired?
I'd be surprised though if you could reject it after this time0 -
Many of the modern gas fires are more decorational and provide background heat only, so do need the aid of additional heating.
The flue goes through your wall, so cannot be made any deeper in order to make it less obtrusive.0 -

What does he think a fire should flipping do. :wall:The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
