Currys - promise to repair within 28 days as part of 1 year manufacturer's warranty??

What if you don't take out a Whatever Happens plan? (Or is 1 years Whatever Happens basic provided free anyway?)

Pretty sure you get a year anyway - they only charge for the "extended" warranty service.

My instinct tells me no - in the first year, isn't it the manufacturer (in my case HP) that takes responsibility for/funds the repair, rather than Currys? So effectively, unless you pay for the WH warranty with Currys, they personally wash their hands of it from the moment you walk out of the shop/receive the online order.

But what do I know?

Nope aside from a few manufactures, under first year all repairs are handled by KnowHow.

I can never understand why anyone would even bother buying anything from Currys.
