Svchost.exe

Can anyone advise how to stop svchost.exe gobbling up all my system resources, for the last few days this has made my laptop slow to a crawl and it's driving me potty!

    post a hijackthis log

    and output from

    cmd
    tasklist /svc

and in task manager, view, select columns pid, and compare with tasklist /svc to find out which svchost it it.

2 virus scanners aren't going to help, I'd uninstall both and try avast free

Closed - Avira is remnants I have tried to remove but can't for some reason. Only installed AVG yesterday as Avira would not upgrade properly. Is Avast better?

Only had this problem since Saturday, when lappy would not go into sleep mode. I have tried system restores which have not helped.

Off to bed so will pick up tomorrow !

It depends which svchost is causing the issue. If it is due to the automatic updates, it should fix it.
