New Small Business... Need to accept Credit Cards?

Hi Guys,

Would appreciate any advice.

My website will be largely internet based... But will spend a lot of time talking will and obviously trying to sell to prospective customers....

I need to take booking deposits immediately, and I know that there are various epos companies that you can use...

Does anyone have any experience of these, and what I should be looking for when I am trying to compare the benefits..

Thanks Guys

Robyn

I'm trying to set up one myself and the cheapest one I found was just by using paypal - rather than a monthly fee.

paypal will be the cheaper option for a low volume as most merchants are going to charge you a set fee plus a monthly charge. The set fee can be slightly lower than paypal but the monthly charge negates any real saving until you start putting a fair bit of money through it.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by My website will be largely internet based lol I would have thought it would be fully internet based as its a website.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Same here, I use Virtual Terminal on PayPal.

You could also try Accept Cards, they are supposed to offer good deals and I see they get good reviews.

If you are a charity paypal will only charge you a 1.4% fee as well as the normal 2....something % - I've done a huge piece of research on this for about a month and so far paypal is the much better options. Some firms are charging £30 per month plus a 3% on each transaction....

I agree a lot of sales over the phone or via email and still only use Paypal - it hasn't lost me a sale yet so I don't see the point in paying extra for card processing. I email a Paypal invoice to the buyer which allows them to pay by credit card even if they don't have their own Paypal account.

OP - you say you need to take booking deposits immediately so I appreciate sending an email invoice might not be suitable for you - as mentioned by zax47 above, have a look at Paypal Virtual Terminal which allows you to take credit card payments over the phone.
