Sorry if have some one quote to paint a room you expect them to prep it correctly before painting, that means filling in. Does not matter what the price is thats what they have quoted for. If it takes them 5 days to do the its there mistake not yours and you not have to pay extra for it.
  • I think it actually took about 2.5 days and I have paid cash.

Anyway I asked him very nicely if he could fill the relevant places and he has done it.

In answer to others, not all the imperfections were visible before the paint went on.

Also remember I am not an expert, I am a customer! Perhaps I have not done everything right but I don't want to be left with a bad job do I?!!

The job is perhaps not tip top decorating as might be reflected in the price. But it was to a reasonable standard and saved us doing the work.

    Thanks for all the responses

Im sorry to say " if you pay peanuts you get monkeys..".....youve got no come back at £60 quid a day.........
  • seems like the painter is getting all the blame. Its the plasterers fault. The painter didnt quote to do any filling but he still done it no problem when the op mentioned it.

as a painter you shouldn't have to put right other trades poor workmanship , however if you want to do a good job you just do it whilst muttering profusely under your breath .

Thats the key here - they never are. If there are bad bits they are obvious and you get the spread to redo them. Very minor imperfections are inevitable and they tend not to show up until the mist coat goes on. Yes the dec should have filled those before further painting but they were probably not visible until after the first coat went on. You expect the spread to deal with major stuff.

So you are happy and thats OK then. So remind me what was the thread really about then? :D

    Cheers

Of course but you know that the last man in gets to deal with all the carp including dealing with the mess the spread left behind. Also all those annoying little bits of copper conductor which I'm convinced the sparky leaves lying around deliberately and strategically placed for the dec to kneel straight on. :D
