Mobile Phone Insurance

I've just got a new phone and the insurance that carphone warehouse suggested seems quite expensive, it's something like £30 for a quarter.

I've seen on the web lots of companies doing mobile phone insurance, but are these companies ok to use or should I pay the extra and just stick with carphone warehouse?

  • Fonesure is good...51 pounds (CUSC)

Don't allow direct phone sellers to provide your insurance.. it is not such a good level of cover.. also there is a scam going around en ce moment.. good luck!
  • If they seem too eager to add on the insurance its probabrly because they know you can do better somewhere else

  • With carphone's insurance you can cancel your airtime contract early (assuming you took out a contract) as long as you don't cancel the insurance.

You can cancel a 12 month contract after 3 months and an 18 month contract after 6 months, so you won't be tied in for the whole length if you don't want to be. However you do have to give the phone, box and sim card back if you wanted to cancel this way.

Their lifeline is actually quite good, most insurance companies will give you a refurbished phone, but carphone just gives you a brand new one from the stockroom. If you have a really expensive phone it's worth keeping the insurance for the first 3 months anyway, just in case anything happens.

You get a 14 day cooling off period anyway from when you took out the insurance to cancel it if you wish, and won't be charged a penny :)
  • When I used to work for one of the 'big three' the main reason why most of the telephone agents left was that they got sick of telling the customers that they did not have a valid claim.
They were given questions to ask that led the customer into revealing things that invalidated their claim.
My advice: read all of the (very) small print,
if you don't understand something ask for clarification of the terms (as this also forms part of your contract)
If you have to claim be careful how you answer! (usually something like "I'm not sure, does that make a difference" helps them to help you (they carn't advise you as some calls are monitored by supervisors)
    hope this helps!
