Problems with an Ipod Touch

Hi,

Wonder if any of you techie geniuses can help me with my son's Ipod touch. I always seem to get lumbered with the problem!! Have looked on the Apple website but still none the wiser.

My son's Ipod was working fine. He decided to download the latest software and since then he hasn't been able to get his Ipod to work. When you switch it on the apple sign shows initially then then is a music note with itunes written underneath it and an arrow with the white connection cable showing. When we go into itunes his Ipod isn't showing at all. I have tried plugging the cable into the Ipod and connecting to itunes but although I can access itunes, nothing happens.

A couple of weeks ago I had a problem with someone using my Itunes account. Itunes refunded my money and suggested that I change all my details on my account. I have restarted with a new password etc and my other son's Ipod is fine. I don't know whether this issue is something to do with what my son has done or whether it is to do with the problems I had with the account.

Sorry to be so long winded!! I hope someone can make sense of my ramblings!! Many thanks for any help. :)

What happens if you connect the iPod to the computer, does Windows say anything about 'installing device' or anything like that, i.e. does it recognise that something has been plugged in?

If it doesn't, have you tried other USB ports on the computer, maybe the USB port is faulty?
  • Try restarting the iPod whilst it is plugged into the computer.

Hold the power button and the home button for around 10-15 seconds. This has helped me in the past.

Follow this advice BUT first turn off any software firewall as Apple updates & software firewalls do not go together.

If that doesn't work then the "nuclear option" is probably the best option - Install itunes on another computer, connect the touch to that and let it sort itself out, then return to the original computer and attempt to restore the touch from a backup. But I warn you that it's pretty much a nuclear option and even if you do recover everything you'll spend ages getting the apps back as you had them.
  • Hi,

Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately nothing has worked so far so if anyone has any other ideas would love some help. Thanks again:)
