Virgin Card Same number

Hello there,
I just added my wife as an additional card holder on my virgin credit card. How come her card number is the same as mine?

Well on my Amex they are all different. This doesn't seem very secure. if one gets lost then are they not all at risk?

You may find the CV2 will be different on the back of the card.

If you have any concerns contact them:

  • If one gets lost and you report it then I would imagine that both cards will be cancelled and new ones issued.
  • Virgin which is 'issued' by MBNA Europe do not give different card numbers. So if you have a primary and additional they both have the same card number and data associated them. Initially they are the same PINs but you can change them to be different when you get the cards.

It means that when lose a card, both are classed as lost as same number and therefore you get two new cards.

Some issuers do have the ability to give different card numbers for their products, e.g. Lloyds, Sygma

Giving additional cardholders the same card no. as the main cardholder is the usual arrangement. Some banks do issue them with different card numbers, but they are in the minority.
