Although I haven't posted in a few months, saving has still been in my head in a big way. It's now July and an update is long overdue (Sorry if anyones been following the thread).
I've had a challenging few months. My wife is on maternity leave until the end of this month so I've been the sole provider for our family for the first time. I've been paying all of the rent and bills in addition to giving my wife £100 a week of "pocket money". We're moving into armed forces married accommodation in London as of next month (my wife is in the Navy). That should see our monthly outgoings slashed as we'll be paying £331 a month for rent, water and council tax combined.
Here's my savings figures since starting this thread:
Savings
Nov 2011: £1250 saved
Dec 2011: £1250 saved
Jan 2012: £1250 saved + 5 gold sovereigns
Feb 2012: £2500 saved
Mar 2012: £2500 saved + 5 gold sovereigns
Apr 2012: £2500 saved
May 2012: £2500 saved
Jun 2012: £3750 saved
Jul 2012: £2500 saved
Total £19800 cash + 10 gold sovereigns
Not bad for 9 months eh? That's in addition to having just paid for our first family holiday to Gran Canaria leaving tomorrow. 7 days of 5* blissHave to say I'm really looking forward to it
I'm anticipating not being able to save anything in August as we're moving across the country from furnished to unfurnished and so are going to spend a little0 -

Are you saving to buy property?
Thanks :-)
Kind of... The aim is to buy around 2015 with cash or as small a mortgage as possible. We'd probably not be looking for anything more than a 3-4 bed in the west midlands so 150-200k will probably be plenty. My wife and I have half of that between us already so we're getting there :-)0 -
Any investment is a risk. So "no risk" is a rather silly thing to say IMO.
No chance of me investing in Sirius Minerals
Just out of interest I checked out sirius minerals a couple of days ago. If anyone had invested £1k as suggested by that poster... They'd have lost £450 and would be left with around £550 today. Not great for "no risk" eh? ;-)0 -
Signed myself up for an Aqua Reward 3% cashback card today. Hopefully I'll manage to get the £100 cashback over the next year. They've given me a £1600 limit which should make it a little easier0
