I currently have a policy running on my Fiat Multipla, full no-claims, wife as named driver on 3 years NCD.
I've just taken out a policy for a Wheelchair adapted vehicle, we got it from a family friend so I can take my (currently) Wheelchair-bound Mum out occasionally.
I used a comparison website, put in that I haven't made a claim for over 9 years (max NCD), and went for the cheapest quote (naturally).
Now, when I asked my Multipla insurers for proof of NCD, they say it can only be used for one policy at a time
You can use your NCD twice, if you insure both cars with the same insurer. Speak to company that deals with multi car quotes (such as admiral) and they will use the same discount on both vehicles. You can start the multicar policy off with the new car now and add the Fiat when its policy expires. I just did the same with my two cars. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

Interesting. Presumably, if you have a bump on one car, you lose the NCD on both?0 -
If NCB can be used in only one car then any accident should affect premium hike in one car too.
But alas, it always works in insurers' favour!Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
One might have thought that someone asking for advice on insuring a WAV might be more careful about using an offensive term such as '!!!!!!' but apparently not - please feel free not to post on MSE again.0

We went with Admiral 3 years ago when we got an additional car and our then current insurer would not allow any discount. When talking to Admiral they made it clear that each car effectively has its own policy and its own NCD.Gloomendoom wrote: »Interesting. We had 2 cars and both the existing policies were in my name with my wife named as the main driver on one policy. At Admiral's suggestion the "new" 3rd policy was taken out in her name and they gave her a discount equal to having full NCD. She now earns real NCD year by year (assuming no claims) and the discount reduces in proportion.
The Admiral system is quite neat as you have to name an Administrator who is responsible for ensuring that the main and named drivers are fully aware of the conditions attached to each of the (effectively) separate policies. As an example for the car for which my wife is the main driver her excess is £1,500 whilst as a named driver mine is £250 on that particular car - she has 6 points at the moment! Tailoring the policies and the excesses to the risk for each car individually is one way of keeping the cost down. Our 2010 renewal for all 3 cars was £1,010 and the 2011 renewal was £1,012 - all the cars are insured for commuting and business use.
I have no connection with Admiral other than as one of their customers.0
