Bonnet will no longer open after taking my 3 year old Car in for a new Fuel Filter. It worked perfectly before I took it in and any previous month before that as I check the oil religiously.
They say its wear and tear and can stop working driving normally down the road. They wanted to charge me full price for a new key barrel.
Independent mechanic says the bonnet has been slammed down so hard it now has a slight dent running from one side to the other.

Trading standards have been informed so we will wait and see what happens.

Definitely one to avoid.

  • No its a Focus mk2. They mentioned that it was a common problem but refused to repair it FOC.

Try the 6 year rule. They have admitted that it is a common problem, so in part they have admitted that there is an inherent fault. Do you always take it in there for servicing? If so, threaten that they will lose your custom if not fixed. It will only take them 5 minutes, mine did. Say you are looking at a new car for Jan delivery, have your eye on a new focus, but if thats the way they treat you will be looking at toyota instead. Speak to the service manager ref above, if you use your charm and don't get irate, you should get it sorted FOC.

They are just trying their luck with you

Thanks for the info but I have already lost my temper with them after they told me its their word against mine when it comes to reporting it to Trading Standards.

I never get it serviced there as I know main dealers rip you off at the best of times.

I did tell them that I would never buy a car from Evans Halshaw but that doesnt seem to bother them. Once you have bought a car from them its obviously "tough luck" if it goes wrong in the future through a design fault.

Happened on an old Mondeo of mine. The barrel gets full of "gunk" over time and prevents the mechanism moving enough to release the catch.

I bought a new barrel for about £20 and set it up myself (an interesting little puzzle to assemble correctly).
  • Replaced the barrel myself with the help of a friend today. Cost £30, which is a huge saving on the £130 they were trying to charge me.

Will never be going back there again.
