How do I stop my bed squeaking?

...because it's not doing anything for my comfort, well-being, sleep or romantic activities....

It's not the matress that's the problem, but the bed base under the mattress, which is like a mini divan base. I don't know the technical term for it, which isn't helping me find a way to resolve this, but it looks like the one in the top left picture here.
http://www.oddmattress.co.uk/bed-bases.html

The original place where I got the bed has discontinued these bases in favour of a slatted base, but they've also changed the design of the bedframe to accommodate & the slats won't work on my bed.

Would it be worth trying to get the current base repaired? And if so, then who would I ask? An upholsterer? And how much might it cost (just ball-park). If not, then how do I get a new one for what is effectively a fairly bespoke bed

Any help will be really appreciated - I need my sleep/sanity back!!!

Get a new metal framed bed or look for bolts to tighten up but lift it off the floor to tighten each corner.

  • Get a new bed? Lol, that's not very MSE is it? :rotfl::rotfl:

It's not the bolts. It's in the springs inside the divan base thingy that the squeaking is coming from, that's the bit wot's broke!

I daresay a local bed shop may be able to source you a suitable platform-top divan but your unlikely to get such a service from Dreams, Bensons etc.

So if the mattress is fine, just replace the divan or buy a bedstead if you prefer. It's sanitysaving rather than moneysaving!

If you really want to save money i guess you could identify the squeaky bits, pierce a small hole through the cover to reach the spring and spray liberally with WD40, then tape over the hole. I've never tried this though but you never know it might give you a few peaceful nights or reduce the noise.

I'm gonna try the WD40 approach, at least that might help for a bit.

The bedstead isn't from the Dreams/Benson's type of place - it's an expensive hand-crafted etc one from a small company. So looks like I may have to hunt around for a new base...

Have you tried approaching the company you purchased from? If it's a small company they might like to protect their good name and send a representative out to inspect who may be able to help, or have a local upholsterer (to you) they could recommend. (They usually have someone to call on to do small repairs) It depends how long you've had it and how good their customer service is...:)
