Scottish Power to EDF
Hi
I moved house in the last year and am supplied Gas and Electricty by Scottish Power.
Recently they moved me on to the Online Standard tarriff, which originally put our costs up. They have subsequently written to me to say they are further increasing our costs, they are now almost double what they were 6 months ago.
I have checked uswitch and found that edf will supply both gas and electric far cheaper. As I have never done this before, and this is fast becoming the most complicated thing ever, I was hoping someone could help me with a few questions.
1) Paying monthly Direct Debit with Scottish Power, I am still in credit compared to my usage. What will happen to this money if I switch to EDF via uswitch?
2) USwitch says there is a 12 day cooling off period, so I can change my mind if I wish, if I decide to switch, will I automatically be supplied by edf after this 12 day period?
3) I have heard abt the possibility of free loft insulation from EDF to new customers. Will this be availble to those joining from USwitch or will I have to speak to edf personally once the switch is complete?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Keep up the good work on what is truely a great site.

2 No it takes longer than 12 days, about 4-6 weeks seems to be the norm. One reason is that SP will be given 28 days notice of the switch.
3 I think EDF are giving free loft insulation to anyone, even non customers, so you should qualify. Look at their website and you will find a number to ring.

They usually send it back direct to your bank account but be prepared to chase!

No the switch will start after the 12 day cooling period. Will take weeks after that. I switch every year and usually takes 6-8 weeks. However you can 'opt out' of price rise if switching if your respond in time.

Will need to speak to them once switch is in place!
Oh and remember to check cashback sites before you switch. Quidco will give £20 for a dual fuel switch at the moment. Other cahsback providers may offer more or less.
