so £94 a week IB £71 a week AA and state pension £102 week i make that £267 a week to keep 2 people with no rent or mortage and less than £2 week c.tax plus a pension credit top up,i`m sorry but i dont see a massive problem here, many families of 4 survive on less

I understand this, I actually haven't had the figures for the AA & state pension. I am a single mum with 4 children and live on less than this a week, it is do-able of course it is, I'm not saying that it isn't but I would like to try and help them, they have lost all of their savings and I would just like to see if there is any other help out there that they may be entitled too, whether the solicitors fees were justified and whether they can still appeal the funeral grant.

  • That's why I couldn't understand why the OP wanted help with heating and bills when they already receive money for it. (Also the WFA of course.)

Same as above, but what is WFA? Thank you

    Sorry, should've said WFP.

  • Yep I think he does get that (pop I mean) I'm sure dad mentioned it too me. This would be a lot easier if they lived closer to them then I could go round and gather the info I need and go from there but Im having to rely on 2 very unmotivated depressed ppl and trying to gently motivate them into living again :(
I'm REALLY concerned about this funeral grant they were refused and whether they could reapply or appeal and try and recoup either the whole amount or the amount they had to find to add to my nans savings? The solicitors fees are really winding me up now as both pop and dad seem to have no idea nor clarification as to what the £1900 was paid for!

The £1,900 is indeed puzzling but there wouldn't be eligibility for a funeral grant with £2,500 in your grand mother's estate. This would easily cover a modest funeral so it must have been someone's choice to have spent more than this, so you wouldn't expect that extra to be repaid.
  • I didn't actually attend the funeral due to difficulties towards the end of my nans life, she left a written letter stating I was not welcome there or anywhere near. I respected this and stayed away until everyone had gone then I paid my respects. Due to this, I never saw the actual funeral but was told that it was very basic, no procession, no notice in the paper, hardly any flowers etc. I think I need to ask for a breakdown of what was paid for and how much it was but I feel so guilty and bad for bringing it up with them, I don't know and haven't a clue how much a funeral should cost basic or not so am going into this with my eyes shut and trusting the information I have been given. The £1900 is really puzzling, I think I may need to make a trip up to them and help them go through their paperwork face to face as they can both be very vague at times
