Pregnancy & Redundancy

If I was under 3 months pregnant and therefore not told anyone (particularly my employers) at this stage and was made redundant what would happen?

Normally I would just go out and find another job and not turn it into a big worry but this wouldnt be so easy...
You'd have to tell your potential employer that you were pregnant and are they likely to employ you if youre going to be leaving again in 6 months time..
Plus I assume that I wouldnt be entitled to any kind of Maternity Pay either...

Can anyone fill me in on what would happen in this situation?

  • You wouldn't have to tell a potential employer at interview stage - if you're the best person for the job then that's all they should take into account. You may qualify for maternity allowance if you have been employed throughout your pregnancy but don't qualify for maternity pay from your employer.
