Balance transfer to another person

Hi there,

Question: Is it possible for my partner to balance transfer her outstanding credit card balance, which she's paying interest on, to a 0% credit card in my name? If it is possible, is it only certain lenders?

With our respective credit histories, I'm able to get a 0% deal whereas she isn't.

Yes, just fill in the BT form in the online banking.

However you will become legaly responsible for the debt not your girlfriend.

It is usually possible as they will typically only ask for the card details, not the cardholder details for the balance to be transferred, especially when you do it online.

Word of warning though - transfer someone else's balance onto your card and it becomes your debt and your responsibility to pay.

You can't use the same card issuer (ie you cannot transfer from a barclaycard in her name to one in your name, or from an MBNA in her name to a Virgin card in your name).

Some banks will refuse if you try to do it by phone, but if you go into the online banking section of your new account you can fill in her card details and the amount to transfer and they don't even ask the name the account is in.
