Which laptop?

I'm looking to get myself a new laptop, and have narrowed down the options to a few possibilities, and I was hoping to get some advice on which is the best deal:
ASUS K53U - £289.97 (spec here)
Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1UX - £255, or I could get the same Toshiba but with 4gb RAM for £10 on laptops direct.
Which of these would you recommend? I want a durable laptop that will last me a while without having to be repaired every 5 minutes. I've heard good things about ASUS laptops, so I'm leaning towards that at the moment, but would appreciate your opinions. And if you can recommend any other laptops for under £300 I'd welcome your suggestions (though I'd rather avoid a refurb).

I love ASUS and thanks for giving your budget.
I would lean in the ASUS direction, however, can you tell us how you intend to use your laptop?
That would give the folks on here a little more to go on when giving advice.P.I.C.N.I.C problem: Problem In Chair, Not In Computer0 -

Sorry, completely forgot to mention that! It will mainly be used for internet browsing (including watching TV online), and fairly basic word processing, so nothing too extreme.
I also meant to ask whether anyone knows of any discount codes for either the Debenhams Plus or Laptops Direct websites? I've had a look round and couldn't find anything, but it never hurts to ask!0 -
This Fujitsu AH530 is better value for money.
If you have a Quidco or TopCashBack account, you can get 2% off the ex VAT price. Here0 -
have you got one already?!!

have you got one already?
I'm not sure whether you're asking whether I've got a new laptop already (I don't) or whether I already have a laptop which I'm looking to replace (I do). However, for various reasons I won't be trading in my old laptop, if that's the reason you're asking.0 -
I was asking the latter, - is there something wrong with it?!!

He's asking, so as to help you return your old laptop to tip-top condition.
If you want to spend less; ACER ASPIRE 5551A £2500 -

Basically, it's been quite badly physically damaged. Internally, everything still works, for the moment at least. It's not beyond repair, but I've done quite a lot of research into the different options open to me and decided that on balance, buying a new laptop is probably the best option for me. Thanks though!0 -

Thanks, I wasn't trying to be rude in my response, I just genuinely wasn't sure which question he was asking, so I tried to be as informative as I could
Thanks for both of your suggestions as well, they both look like definite possibilities. I am a little wary of getting a refurb - I know some people who've had excellent experiences, but I also know of people who've had issues. I know that my rights are the same with a refurb as with a new machine, but I'm a little worried that I could end up with something that I need to return, and end up without a laptop for longer than I would like. Perhaps I'm being a bit overcautious though.
I've also heard some bad things about Acer quality. It's always difficult to know what to believe, and I'm aware that for any manufacturer I can name there will be people who've had bad experiences, but I have to admit, it has made me a little reluctant to go with Acer. What are people on here's experiences with Acer?0
