Do you have a source for this? It's a bit too late for me to query it but just curious whether it's true or not.
Thanks for all your replies everyone!0 -

Unfortunately my source was my last boss - he was outraged by the change and triggered quite a debate in the office. But a week later our department got made redundant so I can't ask him about it any moreMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Prior to my current job had 2 days off in 10 years
Been in current job 3 yr and had 28 days off, does not help that company(big multinational) is run like the gestapo by a bunch of clueless managers who dont care about the reason for sickness. As far they are concerned a day off is a strike on your file hence staff morale is at an all time low, only consolation is when they need volunteers for extra shifts the response is NIL and the poor managers have to work it0 -
I managed to get a job after 9 months off once.0

When I got my current job I had had 6 weeks illness in the previous year (in two blocks). It was all to do with the same problem and I had an excellent sickness record before that. I did know that my reference from my employer was excellent. On the job form it said a medical may be required, but they didn't even ask for that.0

Companies will typically use a scoring system, most are something simple like (total number of days sick) X (number of occurrences of sick leave)^2
So being sick for once for 4 days gives you a score of 4 where as being sick 3 times for a total of 4 days give you a score of 36. Some may also look at the sorts of illness for likelihood of repetition.0 -
It's normally looked at by occasion and not duration. So short sickness looks worse than 1 long spout.0

I had 13 days at my last job and would be open about that but 10 days was for Kidney Stones and I was very ill and can prove that. Like previous posters have said if it was 9 single days then it may look a bit odd but if you had say 5 & 4 then not as bad. The average at my last job per year was 13 and anything over that they would have a chat with you to see if you were ok or if there was anything they could do etc.
I wouldn't worry about it too much unless they check up on the sickness levels at your previous job - just don't lie.0 -

And being sick 9 times in a year for a total of 10 days gives you a score of 810. Google suggests that some companies will start dismissal proceedings at 650 to 700.0
