Finding a good electrician

We are in the process of buying a house, which will require a full rewire, and would also like an RCD box, security lights outside, extra sockets etc

Can anyone please tell me what qualifications the electrician needs to have, and also do I need to get some kind of certificate of work.

Thanks

    You don't say where you are located CheeseLady.

    Link to find a registered Part P electrican in England/Wales is

    http://www.competentperson.co.uk

    There is no Part P in Scotland, but your sparky must still be registered with Select;

  • Thanks both of you, I am in England, so will check out the link. :)
  • The electrician must be Part P registered. Make sure you call up the body he claims to be registered with and verify that he actually is - we had someone lie to us about it, and had a very narrow escape!

    You can also search directly for a registered local electrician - have a look at the NICEIC and ECA websites.

    Don't use the home improvement portals - they are no guarantee of finding a good spark! Any trades who are any good steer well clear of them

    Ask friends, family and work colleagues if any can recommend a spark. Much better to get a recommendation from someone who has used the guy before than hoping for the best.

    if you tell us where in England someone here might be able to recommend someone, if your friends & neighbours can't
    I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

    You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
