washer dryer packed up, under 1 yr, do i qualify for replacement?

Hi.

My washer dryer is not working, I took out extended 5 yr parts warranty with hotpoint.

As the washer dryer is under 1 yr old, do i qualify for a like for like replacement?

I've called hotpoint service team and booked an engineer to come out this week, who also informed me that my warranty i have does not cover labour from the engineer.

I'm asking, as the unit is under 1 yr old, do i qualify for a like for like replacement?

If it's under a year old, and they can't repair it, they will replace it.

Remember, all white goods are covered by a 6 year warranty anyway, although manufacturers will try to get out of it in whatever way they can, as long as you can proove the unit was unfit for purpose, or shouldn't have broken when it did, you are entitled to a repair / replacement.

In your case, as I said, if they can't fix it (the repair should be free) you'll get a replacement.

You did not take out a Five Year Parts Guarantee, you just registered for the 'free' Five Year Parts Guarantee.

He informed you that the warranty does not come with labour beyond the first 12 months.

You will also have been offered a extended warranty to cover labour and accidental damage beyond the first year.

As Lucero wrote earlier; "If it's under a year old, and they can't repair it, they will replace it."
Beyond that, is anyone's guess, unless you have taken out their 'extended warranty'(labour inclusive).

Didn't much like the cost of their Hotpoint extended warranty. Something like £99 per year.

White goods are not covered by a 6 year warranty. You can make a claim under the SOGA for up to 6 years after purchase, but that doesn't mean that a product should last 6 years or that is comes with a 6 year warranty. As it is under a year old you might have better luck with speaking to the shop you bought it from. Most retailers will provide a one warranty that covers parts and labour. However, you wouldn't be able to insist on a replacement from them, but you could certainly ask them. But is likely they would just offer you a repair.

It depends on how long you were told the machine would be guaranteed for. Did they say a year? It varies from make to make. Our Bosch has a 2-yr guarantee, my friend's Miele 10 years for example. I'd think in the first instance they would look to repair it, but if you can prove the workmanship's faulty you could ask for a replacement.

just as an aside..

*If/when it comes to replacing it, avoid Hotpoint like the plague!!
*Washer-dryers are renowned for going wrong, unfortunately. As a general rule it's better to get seperates if possible.
