Food for single person in flat

I am on my own and one way I have found useful to save money is to cook a large pot of stew/soup and live on that for several nights in a row. Some find it boring, but I am quite happy to do that. I do vary it a bit with different bread, a potato, or dumplings or rice on the side.31.5/1000

I also have a crummy ice box 'freezer' that's as useful as a chocolate teapot and no microwave at home (but one at work).
I find it easier to do two small shops a week so that I don't have a fridge full of stuff waiting to go off. I can also make better use of yellow stickered items from the supermarket.
I try and write a meal plan so that I don't end up spending ridiculous amounts of money on carp.
Tonight I cooked my dinner (pizza) and a chicken stew in the oven together. The chicken stayed in longer, but I haven't had to put the oven on twice. The chicken was a reduced item and will make 3 meals, possibly 4.
I have a budget of around £25 a week, although I have gone slightly over that today as I have stocked up on some cupboard staples due to the bad weather- I don't want to keep trekking off to Mr A in all this white stuff.
Try soups, stews and cheap cuts of meat that can be cooked long and slowly. You will end up eating the same a couple of days running sometimes but as has been mentioned already you can ring the changes with different accompaniments e.g rice, pasta, potatoes.
If you make a meat sauce with mince, onions, tomatoes, herbs and garlic you can divide it into portions and create several different dishes
- add kidney beans and chilli powder/spices when reheating to make Chilli con Carne. Serve with rice
- add some mixed veg and serve with pasta for Spag Bol
- add carrots, mushrooms etc and top with mash potato for Cottage Pie.
A whole chicken can produce roast chicken, sliced for sandwiches, chopped up and added to pasta, risotto, curry etc."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

I think we could possibly help the OP more if we had an idea of what they have in their store-cupboard. I think it could be a huge disincentive to get cooking for yourself if you've few basic ingredients in the kitchen and don't know how to get started.0

I bought a slightly bigger than usual - 4 1/2 litre - sc from am@zon for £24. I can cook a whole chicken, veg, pulses, dried beans etc as I did yesterday using a tomato based sauce, or sometimes it'll be a curry, herbs, or whatever takes my fancy. Admittedly I have good freezer space so I portioned 11 meals from it but a smaller quantity made to cover a few days will keep in the fridge. If in doubt give it a boil up in a saucepan every couple of days but you shouldn't need to. Like others I'll eat the same for several days and I don't mind that, I don't get bored with good flavours.
I don't spend more than £20 a week on food, that's more than enough to eat well. I could pare it down more but it's what I budget for. The animals cost me more than that!
Thanks squeaky for the links, I'll have a browse through those0
