overhead telephone cable caught in tree

hi,just bought a house which has tall trees which we want to cut down.however, there are 2 telephone cables going right through the trees, and would make cutting the tree down dangerous.have rang the people responsible for the cables and they have asked for £126 to take down the cables whilst the tree is being cut and then put the cables back up.any other suggestions as to how to do this hopefully without any cost,or a lot cheaper

That's cheap. I would take it if I were you. Hiring a scaffolding tower for a couple of days will come to that. You could also reflect on what they will charge you if the trees bring the cables down later on.

Have you talked to the tree fellers? They are used to dealing with this kind of problem, they take trees down bit by bit anyway, not in one go with a cry of "Timberrrrr!" like Canadian lumberjacks. I shouldn't have thought they'd have a problem with it.

If you cannot trim the tree around the cable, without risk of damage to the cable, then the price quoted does seem to be quite reasonable.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Any semi-competent tree surgeon will be able to cut around the cables. They'll be taking it down bit by bit.

Have you checked with the council for TPOs?

Decent tree surgeon should be able to work around the cables - we had a tree taken down a few years ago with telephone cable through it ..no problem, no disconnection. May mean they charge a bit extra, as they have to do more work by hand.

Check with the council that there isn't a preservation order on the trees too.
