I know this has probably been discussed before - but how did everybody's proposals go?
Who asked who, where, when, etc...
I'm extremely lucky, my OH (who can't plan bloody anything usually!!! and is back to his rubbish planning self for all things weddingy!!) surprised me whilst we were in Lapland last December (15th), on one knee underneath the Northern Lights.....
with my 11 year old saying "what are you doing down there? Get up! Whats going on? whats happening? I don't understand" lol
AND he had chosen a lovely ring for me!
so over to everybody else - how was it for you?

That sounds wonderful!
My fiancee proposed in august one evening and it was completely out of the blue although I had been dropping serious hints :rotfl:
Our relationship has all happened very quickly and we both knew that marriage and children are what we wanted. We had been friends for a while then had a first official date and since then it all happened quickly - meeting each others parents and family, moving in together etc so I was so excited about a proposal! :j
This is my story -
He told me he had to go and see a friend who was having relationship problems which was fine, I just stayed at home watching trashy tv
He came home a few hours later and started telling me the starry of what happened and then suddenly stopped and told me what actually happened. He had secretly met my dad and ask for his permission. My fiancee is quite old school and so is my dad, they are very similar! He went into all the details about what he said and my dads reaction and at this point I still had no idea he was going to propose :rotfl:
He then walked out of the room while shouting back to me that he had to end their chat and come home, I asked why and when I turned about he was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring!:D
It wasnt anything over the top just personal to us and a total surprise :TSaving my pennies for my wedding on 10th August 2013!:j

My fella told me he was taking me away for 5 days over my birthday, wouldnt say where, I'd guessed Ireland but found out at the airport it was Switzerland. I knew he'd booked a posh restaurant on the evening of my birthday midweek and several friends were convinced he'd pop the question then but I tried to not think that. He'd booked a full plan of things for the week we were there, booked train trips, cable cars, lake cruises etc all in secret. On my birthday he emerged with a rucksack I didnt know he'd got (he packed his own case!) and we got on a train, then another up into mountains, then on one that goes through the Eiger and comes out at the top of the Jungfrau mountain where he proposed out on the snowy plateau. Left me totally speechless (and a bit altitude sick lol) and it did take me a while to remember to say yes! He'd even bought new gear for going up the mountain - coat, hat, gloves, scarf, all in shades of my fave colour purple and had chosen a ring with an amethyst to top the lot0

Oooh thank you, another excuse to tell my story!!
My OH had been dropping hints for months and I thought he was going to do it on my birthday later this month as we are going away to a posh hotel for the weekend.
This Friday just gone we were off out for our 'date night' and I'd just finished getting ready. He called me into the kitchen saying he'd got something for me. He handed me what was obviously a jewellery gift box, but with the way he handed it to me I just thought it was some earrings or something. Opened the box (to find another box inside grr) and inside was a ring (white gold diamond solitaire) and he asked me to marry him!! I couldn't speak! All I managed to do was nod at him!
I had absolutely no idea he was planning it! The day before he'd told me he'd got a boiler to service when really he was at Meadowhall picking the ring.
I'm still on a high now 4 days later lol:beer: Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
ah loving the stories... mine is a little different.
I came home from work one day and H2B was looking after our son. H2B asked me to change DS but in typical 'just getting in from work mood' I crossly said 'cant you do it I have jsut walked in the door and I need to get dinner on' I walked into the kitchen and my son toddled in (had just started walking) and my H2B was all excited saying look at DS. I replied I have seen him do this loads of times.
Then he said no LOOK closely... H2B had a t-shirt made with Mummy will you marry Daddy..... and H2B was on one knee holding the most gorgeous diamond ring I have ever seen. Really unexpected, personal to us.0 -

My proposal was in Paris.
was getting a bit disheartened, as 6 months before we went to Venice, and before that he was dropping big hints, but nothing.
We went to Paris 6 month later, and he proposed under the Eiffel tower, in the gardens, at night. Was very romantic, although I told him to get up off the floor (he was on one knee) as he wa getting his trousers dirty!
Of course I said yes after that!:T0 -
Awww I love reading these - VICSH yours is soooo cute!!
We were in Sydney at the end of a three week holiday in Australia in Dec 09. Before we went away I thought he may propose while we were there (we'd been together 5 1/2 years), but we spent the whole time on beautiful picturesque beaches which we had totally to ourselves, and he hadn't asked in these gorgeous, romantic locations so by the time we got to Sydney I'd convinced myself that it wasn't to be.
We were at Darling Harbour trying to choose a restaurant to eat at and he wouldn't pick one so I got crossIn the end he confessed that he'd booked us a "Sunset Harbour Cruise" but that I'd got ready too quickly (for the first time EVER!) so we'd arrived too early to board :rotfl:. Once we were on the boat, OH had arranged for us to have an outside table on the front of the boat and we had the whole deck to ourselves. Just as we went under Sydney Harbour Bridge with the Opera House in front of us and the sun setting behind it he said "I booked this because I want to marry you". I froze and said "Did you just propose?" and when he said yes, my response was "Have you asked my Dad?" :rotfl: Turned out he had so I proceeded to make the most of the "all you can drink" aspect of the cruise in celebration.
When I woke up the next morning I felt RUBBISH and had to check whether he'd actually proposed the night before or if I'd dreamt itI soon realised it was true when the phone bill came through though  Turns out I rang everyone I knew and drunkenly told them the news (it was 6am in the UK). We went ring shopping together when we got back home and it arrived on Xmas Eve.

In Rome, by the Trevi Fountain, on one knee on the steps leading down to the fountain, surrounded by hundreds of people.
He didn't have a ring and proposed with a cornetto......Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
