Experian Credit Score

Hi People

After a couple of recent rejected applications (a PO credit card and a Cahoot Current Account) I thought the best thing was to check my credit score.

This came back with a score of 522 Very Poor and indicated I would be a very high risk lending prospect.

However my report indicates no missed/late payments and indicated nothing that could justify such a poor rating (all payments up to date).

As I see it I have a few things against me. I have recently moved house and whilst I have applied to go on the electoral register, I will not be added until February but surely this would not effect my score so badly as to be refused a basic current account, besides which my fiancee got her application accepted!! Also the credit card application was made before I moved.

The other problem is that my fiancee has had a few more significant debt problems (she is presently on a repayment plan with CCCS) but according to Experian, I'm not financially connected to her and as I say, she had her application to Cahoot accepted when mine was rejected.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be, and what I can do to correct it as I am quite concerned to see that I'm such high risk!! Thanks.

the only people that know for sure why you were rejected is the companies concerned....have you asked them?

it may be the electoral roll issue as this isn't usually a credit issue but a money laundering issue that can sometimes be resolved by showing other evidence of identity and address.
  • Hello Sam

I got a copy of my credit report from Experian a few weeks ago, but they didn't give me a score. Is your score on your report?

    Cheers, Paul

forget that, I've just read the leaflet that came with the report and know where to get the score from.

  • It might be the fact that you've just moved house and not been there long enough. It might be the fact that it's Experian, I have used both Equifax and Experian and noticed that my reports don't alway match. I guess it depends on the compnay you use.

    Thanks Clapton

I will give Cahoot a call and ask them later, although I am still concerned that Experian considers me such High Risk with no apparent indication (on the report) as to why. I do have a fair few debts (approx £400 OD, £3000 personal loan and £3,000 credit card) but have never defaulted on a repayment and the Experian report confirms this. Am very confused!!

May well be. How long would you say is long enough? Ideally I need this to be ok'ed ASAP as

    1. I am reclaiming bank charges from my existing bank and need to open a parachute &
    2. I have a significant credit card debt that I'm presently being stitched up on interest for and need to switch to a 0% BT one ASAP.

Hmm might be worth trying Equifax also. I'll give it a go.
