Direct Line not accepting Swiftcover Proof of No Claims discount

Options
Direct Line gave me a very competitive quote which I went for. It was much better than the renewal quote with Swiftcover. (I change insurer every year to get the best deal)

I received the policy documents in the post and was asked to send them proof of no claims discount.

Swiftcover is an online only company and all their "paperwork" is in PDF formats or online.

As proof I printed out the Swiftcover renewal email, which shows all the information Direct Line asked for. It shows policy number, car details, renewal quote/date and no claims discount earned.

Today I got a letter from Direct Line saying that they ONLY accept renewal quotes on headed paper and that I would noe have to pay the full premium!!

I phoned them up and was greeted with a very unsympathetic customer service person who simply told me that they cannot accept the email i printed as proof...It HAD to be on printed headed paper.

I move insurers every year and I've moved away from Swiftcover before and I've never had any problems with their renewal email as a proof of no claims discount with any other insurer... Direct Line is the first one to have rejected it!

I cancelled my policy (within the cooling off period) and went with another insurer instead. £5 more (for the year)but I can live with that...

In this day and age I would say that it's unecesarry to require a headed letter...it's so 2001! :)

Thought I'd share my experience if anyone else is thinking of going from Swiftcover to Direct Line......don't. Go somewhere else instead to save you from the hassle.

  • Swiftcover will send you a proper proof of no claims through the post. I think you need to request it from the portal as it says:

    Dear Mr D*****

Following your request for your proof of no claims discount, please find the information below which you can send to your next insurer

    Policy holder name:
    Policy number:
    Start date:
    end date:
    No Claims Discount years:
Number of claims on the policy

    blah blah

All gets sent through the post on letter headed paper.
  • I have started an e-petition to ask the Government to require insurance companies to issue and annual statement of ACTUAL no claims years. Please sign it if you agree with me that it would help solve the problems covered in this thread.

It's got nothing to do with the government, but good luck with it anyway..
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
