DVLA won't let me tax my car online

Still no guarantee you could do it online anyway, the MIB database might not update instantly

I've done that, it's insured, if only the DVLA website worked...

I wrote to Aviva but they told me I would have to wait until today (when the insurance renews) to be able to renew online..
There is your problem. Complain to Aviva. Good luck, in my experience their customer service was dreadful."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

First off, I was able to buy the car tax online this morning before I went to work. :j
I'm £165 lighter in the pocket, I could have got a DVD drive for my Macbook for that. :rotfl:
I wrote to Aviva to ask when they would update the database a few weeks ago, they replied our "renewed policy will not show on the Motor Insurance Database until the renewal date which is 30/10/2011"
Alas, apart from quoting the DVLA website that difficulties may occur if both tax and insurance are due at the same time and advising me to go to the local Post Office (anyone would have thought nobody wants the internet to work), they don't say why it doesn't show till renewal (i.e. is it them being useless, do they have a valid reason, or is it DVLA policy).Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Can't see it being DVLA policy, the MIB database is nothing to do with the DVLA. Maybe that's just the way the MIB database, it can only show the policy in force at that point in time?0

Seems this is just a 'feature' of the system!I tried to tax my vehicle online but my insurance is not found - what do I do?
There is a known issue with the EVL system. This occurs when an insurance policy expires on a date prior to the last day of one month and the tax disc you are trying to purchase starts on the first day of the next month.
Because the EVL system needs to ensure there is an insurance policy in force on the MID on the date the tax is due, it isn’t able to see your insurance record on the MID because it is “looking into the future” and your renewal record has not registered as ‘current’ on the MID, because the first day of the renewed policy period has yet to arrive.
Only when the first day of the renewed policy has arrived, will the EVL system detect a valid policy on the MID for your vehicle and allow the tax request to be authorised. This usually means the tax disc can’t be successfully requested until the first day of the month.
If the above does not describe your situation, then you need to contact your insurance provider immediately and explain to them that you were unable to use the DVLA’s Electronic Vehicle Licensing (EVL) system to purchase your road tax because the system said you were not insured. It could be that an error has caused your insurance provider to fail to load your data to the MID, or there may have been a delay in loading your data. Your insurance provider can investigate and explain.
Please ensure you have the correct VRM on your insurance certificate to rule out any mistakes of this nature.
Experience suggests this is a feature they will not be fixing...
Back to plan B, get new tax disc later on and refund the old one.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
You could have avoided this issue next year by taxing your car for six months. Now you would be cheaper / easier renewing your car insurance a week early. Thus you will have valid insurance when you go try to tax online next year.
PS: Avira could have explained this and you may want to choose a.n.other insurance provider."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
