MBNA Credit Cards

Hi,

I've just applied for and been accepted for a MBNA Credit Card :).

I'm thinking about closing off a few of my other cards with 0 balances (the higher interest ones). Is that wise or should I keep them? Do they really affect my available credit for future if I don't close them?

Also, is it possible to get more than one mbna credit card? If so, I would definately be interested in closing my other cards - I like the rewards that the different mbna cards provide so I would rather have 2 mbna cards then say a creation and capital one card.

If it is possible for 2 mbna cards, is it wise to apply soon one after the other or should I space the applications?

Thanks everyone!

  • Yes, you can have more than one credit card with MBNA ( I have). Sorry, don't know the answers to your other questions.

They tend to split your credit limit across them. You may find that they give you a second card but at the same time correspondingly reduce the limit on your first one.

I was under the impression that MBNA have stopped offering "MBNA" credit cards as they are selling the european business. Is it a strategic partner the op has applied for?

MBNA will not currently let you split limits accross other cards held in the MBNA family due to the sale process being undertaken.

Thanks for that info. I was basing my reply on my experience in the past.

I have two mbna credit cards. Mbna keep coming out with offers of 0% interest on spending on them for six to nine months. That would be great but they repeatedly charged me interest earlier this year when I in fact qualified for the 0% offers. It took quite a bit of time on the phone to sort my statements out. I got the impression that their staff didn't really understand the promotions that they themselves had offered me. So I tend to use my Halifax Clarity card which pays me £5 each month that I spend £300 on it instead.
