Adult Social Worker

I'm sorry if this sounds like a daft question, but what exactly does a. Adult Social worker do? Why would someone need one?

That's a huge area. Adults receiving care both in home and in care homes, those with mental health issues and caring for others are just some of those who could need social worker input. They ensure that everyone is getting the services and help they need is a very basic explanation.

Just curious because the hospital keep asking us if my DH has a social worker. He doesn't. I'm not sure he needs one but the hospital keep going on about it. My DH has some mental health probs and a physical health prob that effects his mobility. I think we manage ok & I'm really not sure what a social worker could do. Can social workers open any doors for us? Is there any situation where it would advantageous to have a social worker?
  • I have a Social Worker.

He has been really useful in the past. When I needed to move, he wrote to the Housing Office explaining my needs and helped ensure that they fully understand the urgency of my move and the specifics of the housing I needed (ground floor - with adaptions).

He has also liaised with my mother/carer to check that she is aware of help for carers - support groups et.c.

Social workers mainly point you in the direction of services referrals Occupational Therapy physical aids Mental Health referral if needed benefits check if needed make sure he has all that he is entitled to a letter from a social worker will carry more weight than from general public with other professionals. And carers have needs to and are entitled to an assessment of their needs.
