Help Tele2 saleman signed me up without my consent

A few months ago I had a door to door salesman selling Tele2 services. I told him I DID NOT WANT it.

A few weeks later I get an introduction letter saying thank you for joining and your BT line will be routing calls through Tele 2 in about a weeks time.

So I phone BT straight away explaining that to them and they took my complaint to forward it to oftcom, and told me they would not allow Tele2 to route my calls, and they didn;t.

So a couple of weeks ago I get a bill from Tele2 saying I owe them £12.61.

Now I did not join Tele2 nor did my line get transferred to them, so I phoned Tele2, who's Indian call centre said they would cancel my account and I would owe nothing.

Today, I get a reminder letter from Tele2 saying pay up else the debt collection agency will be informed!!!

What should I do?

have you have confirmation from tele2 (due to your phone call cancelling the account) that you would owe nothing.......

if not, raise the issue with tele2 again........
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Would get back to Tele2 - you have several ways of confirming that there was never a contract (BT/Ofcom). I would ring them but also write to them. Highlight that they must have a fraudulent salesman operating in your area and you have supplied Ofcom with the details. I'm not sure if the office below is just a mail address.

Thanks. I phoned Tele2 again today and was told the amount would be passed on to another department to be cancelled. But I will also write a letter to them just to be sure so that it's in writing.

A friend of a friend had similar in a certain High Street mobile phone shop. He/she declined an offer for their home phone service; then received a similar welcome letter, confirming banking details; got a copy of the direct debit mandate, cancelled it, reported it to the Police as a forgery. They were being threatened with debt collectors for over a year. In the end they received an unreserved apology after 15 months, the same day as the last legal threat.

I reckon they should have got it on the Watchdog programme, reported it to the Data Protection people as misuse of the banking details, and sued for harassment.
