Old currency

I have found a load of old pre-Euro coins (and a couple of notes) during a clear out of friends house and we were wondering if there was anything we could do with them. I know we can't exchange them with out going to a central bank but do any charities take them anymore? I know some used to but that was while back last time I saw.

We would rather not throw them away, the metal could at the very least be recycled if nothing else I'm sure.

Any ideas?

A lot of them, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium etc, and those are just the ones I remember from a quick look, also just found a few from Qatar too.

There isn't a lot of value there, just an overstuffed money bag full but I'd rather not see them wasted if somebody can get some use out of them.

I saw a tin marked "foreign coins" in my local pharmacy shop on behalf of R.N.I.B. once last year, so I assummed some charities would probably accept them or when you are visiting the museums in London, they have a donation globe where I have seen all kinds of currencies.
