Hi i applied to Sainsburys for a general assistant,12 hrs sun, mon, frid 10am -2pm.Had 2 interviews then got a text sayin i was offered a job and to phone HR which i did.The girl informed me hours had changed and days from what i had applied for.I told her i could not do those hours as i have a family so she took what hours i could do and said she would email store and would get back to me.I waited 5 days and i called to be told there was no longer a position as i couldnt do the hours. Is this allowed, can these companys do this. Why would they advertise a job and certain hours get people to apply for it,they wasted my time and theres and didnt even bother phoning me to tell me i had no longer a job!!i have to tell every1 which is embarrasing.can they do this?I have been unemployed for over a year and was so happy to get something

How rude.
Yes littlenell they can do that, and they have. Employers' needs can change between placing an advert and allocating people to jobs. In your position I would have not 'complained' (that is never going to get you a job - which I think is what LMA was trying to say, above) but rather sent a polite letter setting out your available hours and asking them to bear you in mind in future if any jobs came up.
That may have gione straight into the bin like your complaint, but at least you would have left yourself the chance of a recall.0 -

not rude at all - it's a fact they do not care cause if they did they wouldn't act this way and they do act this way because they can and people who are strugling to get jobs are back to the begining again with it being no fault of their own .0 -

Their rudeness does not excuse yours, which was directed at the OP. I know very well that it is a cut-throat world out there, which is why I would never advise an applicant to burn their boats with an employer, as this poster seems to have done.0 -
My post was not a jab at the OP it was a statement - why would they care? They don't - thats the harsh part.Their rudeness does not excuse yours, which was directed at the OP. I know they wont care if i complain or not but i just wanted to get my point across,i stated what hours i can do,there was only 2 days i had 2 restrict my hours i could work every other day.I really care if i burn my bridges with them im not gonna wait another 3 month2 see if i get offered another job with them. They shouldnt be wasting people time advertising a job that didnt exist, its just as well i didnt sign off unemployment benefit0

I am totally with you - the comment wasn't a dig at you but I know employers don't care as they have messed you round and they will just get someone else who can do the days/hours
Good luck0
