paypal business account - ?

hi

i had an email today off paypal saying i have earned more than 4,500 and that i had to fill in the following steps

this included

add/confirm bank account
Enter Expanded Use Number
Validate your Account Information
Provide Business Information

now i have done the above steps, but i am not a business and only a private seller, i have sold some stuff on ebay in my time but i am not a business

i couldn't do anything with my account unless i filled in the above details and it feels like i was being forced to upgrade to a business account

does the business account cost extra at all?

and how can i go back to premier

thanks

  • You can't. If you want to receive that kind of money into your Paypal account then you need the appropriate type of account.

There is a way round it which I use myself but it's not something I'd post on a public forum, or anywhere on the net for that matter! ;)

Your only other possibility is to use multiple Ebay and Paypal accounts to spread the cost out, but you'll need to use a different bank account for each one.

there should be a box that you can choose, Business or Individual account

FAQ - BUSINESS / MERCHANT INFORMATION
I'm not a business so why are PayPal asking me to provide that sort of information?

In order to verify a Premier or Business account PayPal will ask you to Supply Merchant Information, set up Bank Funding and Validate your Location.

You must complete all three steps for the account to become verified and to lift your sending and withdrawal limits. PayPal does this to protect the security of its service.

To complete the 'Supply Merchant Information' form you will need to:

    - Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/
    - Click 'Profile'.
    - Click the 'Business Information' link in the 'Account Information' column.
    - Click the 'Edit' button. You will be asked to complete the following information:
    - Business Type - if you are not a Business you can select 'Individual' from the drop down menu

I had that a year or two ago but I could actually ignore the screen asking for full business details and carry on to the next screen to get some sort of advanced verification.

I don't know if it is still possible to do that though.

  • Paypal have to do this for the money laudering laws that came into effect a few years ago. I am suprised that you have used paypal for that much and not already verified the information that they are asking for.
You'll now also find that if you withdraw more than 5 grand from the bank that they will ask you what it is for - again the newer money laundering laws require this of them.

It's a grand, not 5 grand. I have this problem on a regular basis.

    cheers for all responses

does it cost me anything having this business account

    thanks
  • I've got this as well. Saying I've received over £4,500 since joining PayPal... Not really surprising, I've been with them years!!

I'm not a business I just have several expensive hobbies and everytime I upgrade my equipment I sell the old stuff on. So im just selling my own personal possessions (not buying/selling for a profit)

So I assume I should just choose the "individual" option in the list. But some of the other questions are about percentages of your monthly sales etc. This isnt relevant as I'm not a business

  • Have you tried ringing the phone number on the resolution page to see what they say?

I just tried but those phone numbers seem to be blocked by our internal exchange at work
  • techmob did you resolve this?
