we have underfloor heating. They sleep together in a cage which has a big duvet folded over and placed inside with a little pillowphoto.php?fbid=40694298169&set=a.37241868169.50826.759738169&type=3&theaterhttp://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.37241868169.50826.759738169&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=40694298169&set=a.37241868169.50826.759738169&type=3&theater

I wondered about a hot water bottle - do you bury that deep in their duvets?? Mine tend to paw at their beds when getting comfy so I was worried about damage etc.

I use the animal ones - solid sorta plastic that you nuke in the microwave for 6 mins. It has a few chew marks (from Hettys puppy days) but I've had it for years, and several dogs now.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

My dog does have longish fur (not super long like some breeds). So it's usually him keeping me warm but he does snuggle up under the covers sometimes with me.

Aren't you worried about them not being able to move away from the heat source if they get too warm? I certainly wouldn't use a crate under a heat light and always make sure mine have access to an area away from the heat light I use.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Its not a heat light, its underfloor heating, not roasty toasty, just nicely warm if I'm sitting on the floor.
They like their bed. The heating is off at night so the floor is cooling down but still warm. I just mean they aren't sleeping on a cold draughty floor.
Should they want to get away from the neat, both are more than capable of escaping if they want, they aren't locked in. The door is shut, but they can both open it. Occasionally I have got up to find Nala on the sofa in the family room, but personally I think that has more to do with Ellies wind than being too hot.

  • Sheepskin rugs. The family Doberman sleeps on one, our cat sleeps on one, and I am sitting on one. Toastie.
  • We got a jumper from Mekuti (online) for Meg as she suffers badly with the cold. This year we have also bought a memory foam mattress topper which we've cut into 3 pieces - one in the van crate, the house crate and one in a bed. She also has a single duvet cut into two so is very snuggly thank you! The total cost of keeping her warm for the next few years in under £100 - cheaper than coal and central heating, a little more mobile too!:T

A bolster bed may keep the draughts out - my lad has one of these Deep Dish beds from Orvis with a couple of fleeces on top. In general he doesn't feel the cold but there's been a few occasions, generally when he's poorly, where I've come across him literally shaking with the chill.
