Hi all,
Hope you don,t mind me starting a new topic, but as I was filling my Slow Cooker it dawned on me that its 21 today:eek:
I received it as a wedding present, its a Swan and it was on our wedding list from Boots, we got the whole matching set of plates, cutlery etc with a autumn berry sort of pattern - the SC lasted alot longer than the marriage:o.
I use it at least twice a week and its so much better than its bigger, more modern brother.
I wondered if anyone else has kitchen gadgets that they,ve had for years and wouldn,t be without.
Thanks for reading :A

My vegetable knife. It was bought from the pound shop when My first husband and I split up. I was broke and had nothing so needs must. Well, it's ten years old now, still going strong and so comfortable to use!
Other than that I guess the bero cookbook that my nanna gave me years and years ago. I know I can get a more modern version, but it's just so nostalgic for me...it's covered in greasy fingerprints, pages half hanging out, but we used it together when I was a childProud to be dealing with my debts :T

I have a Bialetti expresso coffee stove top maker which me and OH bought together when we first met in 1987! I use it every day and its still going strong. I see lots of different designs of coffee makers on the market but this ones beats them all hands down, delicious coffee and virtually indestructible!Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

My prestige slow cooker is 33 years old. The removeable earthenware pot is showing it's age....glaze is a little crackly. It doesn't get a lot of use these days as it is huge and too big for just the two of us , now the children have flown the nest, unless I'm batch cooking for the freezer.0

I have an electric mincer/sausage stuffer/cheese grater (it also has some weird biscuit shape things but I've never used them) I think it's called a moulinex Jennette and it was a first wedding aniversary pressy from my mum and dad. It was 30 in June (still married to the same guy as well:D)
It still minces merrily though it's been a while since I made sausages but I do still have all the bits.
I also have a ham knife that was in use in my Grandfathers grocers in Manchester circa 1950 - still in regular use.0 -
I love the fact that my slow cooker is a year older than me. It was given to a friend of the family in 1970 as a wedding present. It was used regularly by them until the older kids flew the nest and I was given it in about 1992. I use it at least a couple of times a week and have done for years.
Like Carly's the glaze is going inside and its getting hard to clean. Its lived in two houses, cooked several Christmas puddings and even been on holiday with us. I dont want to part with it and it will be a sad day when it finally has to be replaced.
Am I bonkers? Yes totally - but I love my slow cooker.0 -
ooh! I forgot that I use my mum and dads breadknife they got when they got married! It must be about 55 years old andis the best one I've ever had! They are both dead now sadly but I think of them everyday when I use it xSave £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Hi Islandmaid - we got exactly the same slow cooker as a wedding present and that was 23 years ago!! I still use it regularly along with some of the same matching plates - they are the only ones that gravy doesn't run off from as my other plates are all too flat!!Official DFW Nerd Club Member no 694

Weemac - we had matching everything salt n pepper pots, tablecloths, napkin rings - Does anyone actually use napkin rings any more LOL
Ex hubby and I are still mates and have a right laugh about how obsessed I was about matching stuff, maybe if he,d had the pattern tattoo,d on his bum, I would have kept him too- the 80's has a lot to answer for - but your right about the plates, excellent size and shape x

I've got a rotary hand whisk that used to be my nan's, she used to use it for whipping up the cream for one of her amazing trifles. It must be about 40 years old at least - don't use it now but when I see it in the drawer I think of my lovely nan!0
