Concert ticket scam

Options
I recently bought some concert tickets from the "theticketwebsite.net." The tickets are to be sent out 2 weeks before the concert starts which will be June 2012. The tickets cost me just over £400, and my credit card company have confirmed that if the tickets do not get delivered they will investigate for me.

However after receiving some feedback on the site I did some investigation and I very much doubt that the site actually have the tickets in the first place.

I've asked to cancel the ticket purchase but the reply from their administrator is that cancellation is not possible as stated in their T's and C's. What I would like to know is can I use my consumer rights to get my money back earlier than June 2012 when I'm confident that the tickets don't arrive?

Why did you not use a reputable site,
  • The short answer, I suspect, is 'no' - having a hunch that the tickets won't be delivered is not the same as having a claim and whilst you may have a strong suspicion that may turn out to be true, they haven't actually done anything wrong yet, so it's still just a hunch. However, if the site is proven to be fake (by more than just your suspicions) or disappears from the web then you might well have more of a claim. It might be worth checking with your bank that they will still allow you to claim next year as many have a limit from the date the transaction was made.

to be fair, the CC company may act if shown the above information - they may refuse the release of the funds - the fact their UK office is a mailboxes is just laughable...

have you checked prices against actual venue prices

    an example

    Britney Spears
    Date: Thursday 3rd Nov 2011, 19:00
    Location: Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle

    theticketwebsite.net £90
Metro Radio Arena via Ticketmaster £55

    looks a scam site

This website name sounds very familiar - I think they were mentioned in the Mirror Investigates section of the Daily Mirror last Thursday.

Yes - it was in relation to Stone Roses tickets. Linky

Passing that info to your CC company now may give you useful comeback if you need to make a claim or stop the transaction.
  • Thanks to all of you who have offered advice. Based on your feedback I have contacted my Credit Card company again with additional information, and hopefully this will be enough for them to pursue a refund.
