Does a CCJ or default stay forever?

Never really though about it like that, I just assumed when OP said they were no longer on the credit that they must have been paid, no?If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0

Thanks guys for the replies. All really helpful.
One thought I had today. Is it not unfair to penalise someone trying to get their credit back in order. I had a CCJ for £273 back in 2007, which I wasn't able to pay off in the month they give but paid it 6 months later so it shows as 'Satisfied' but STILL FOR 6 YEARS.
You can apply to be discharged from Bankruptcy after 12 months, still owing money but with a 'clean slate'!
Why not remove a CCJ or Default if paid, after 12 months. Surely this would be an incentive to pay off debts for some people keen to make a fresh start.
It seems wrong to leave it 6 years, when the same result applies, perhaps not having paid a penny.
Any thoughts....

Meant to say the other CCJ was in 1996 for £56 and I paid that in the month's grace.

Bankruptcy stats on your file for 6 years also. Discharges mean your able to enter into new agreements, it does not remove the information from your file.If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...:think:0

No mate, you don't get a clean slate!
You still have all the old Defaults and CCJs (if there were any) on your credit file for upto six years from the date of bankruptcy (they merely show as "Satisfied" with £NIL balances)
You also have the BR order itself still lurking on your credit file for six years from the date of the order. It merely shows as "Discharged" after 12 months. The fact you were BR doesn't go away for another five years.
But even then, it hangs around for your whole life.
E.g. if I were to apply for a nationwide mortgage in two years, they would see a flawless credit file and initially approve me.
They would then have their solicitors send me paperwork some of which includes a declaration as to your "Never" having been bankrupt.
Lie on this, and you can be put up on criminal fraud charges - and they can find out - the record never goes away - it merely no longer reflects on your credit file after six years.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
