It's 2 years away OP! Do you really need to be worrying about this?!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

I just like to be ultra prepared, I'm doing all my own stationary and am setting all the templates up so I can do some samples, plus some of the stationary that is getting sent out I will be posting to family in America and Canada early next year (at the request of them) so they can arrange their holidays way in advance.0 -
Probably 90% of the people in my life know me by my nickname and probably couldn't tell you what my actual name is.
10% know only my actual name, as they're work colleagues, which is the only time I use it.
So, I sent the invites with the actual name, but pointed to a website, the url for which included the nickname - throughout the website I used both names randomly - and continued to do so for the rest of the wedding. I figured that I couldn't protect my work colleagues from hearing my nickname (not that it's rude or anything), as it would be used in speeches etc and I couldn't very well hide my actual name from the others as I had to use it in church - so I just interchanged randomly throughout and it was fine.
In summation: I don't think it matters at all!

A lot can happen in 2 years.
I had similar circumstances, did all my own stationery and planned the whole thing in less than 5 months.
Surely your foreign family just need the date? You could tell them that verbally!Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

We used our shortened names for everything as that's how everyone knows us.
Our full names only got used whilst saying our vows.
For table settings, we had 'Bride' and 'Groom' and everyone else had their names.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

I'm only printing the ones for abroad but I want all my stationary to match even though they'll never see each others.
I have told them verbally and originally I was going to send save the date magnets with their christmas cards this year. However, my Auntie wants her invite by April 2012 and I thought rather than just sending hers I would also send my other uncles and my great uncles at the same time to save the whole why have you got yours and I haven't got mine yet (they all can be quite petty).0 -

That made me smile
. I would do exactly the same. You just know one Aunt will be on the phone to the other Aunt, who will then call the Uncle and before the week is up they'll be family uproar over who has an invite and who doesn't! :T
I think you're right, and know your family best. Especially if people are travelling overseas and need to know the date. Is would be so much easier to call and tell them, but nothing cements the date (or wedding) like actually posting the invites.:j
Remember though, they won't know it all matches, so it's really only for you and they will know your H2B as Rob or Robert and won't mind which is used. So try not to stress out. I'm sure as time goes by whether he's called Rob or Robert will be overtaken by other things (maybe an Aunt who has lost her invite in the post:rotfl:)Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

They do indeed, they really can be petty at times but unfortunately you can't pick your family.0 -

I think the OP is dealing well with the situation. She's clearly stated her reasons for wanting to send out the invites early.
The thread is regarding whether she should use Rob or Robert, and all you've said is should she worry about this? (she only posted for advice on what others would do), you could tell them verbally and that her Aunts 'really need to get out more'.
None of which answer her original question.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
