Rob or Robert on favours etc?

Afternoon all,

I have a bit of a dilema as to what to use on our wedding bits (table plan, favours, card post box etc) should I use Rob or Robert?

I know that during the ceremony I will have to use Robert but what about everything else to do with the wedding?

I will use Robert on the Save the Dates and Invites but that is mainly because I have included my middle name but I'm unsure as to if I can use Rob on everything else.

I asked my H2B what he would prefer and he said he's not bothered, but everyone usually calls him Rob. Sometimes it's like banging my head against a brick wall, is it really too much to ask for a simple answer :wall:

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

We used our full names on everything, purely because we did so on the invitations which were very traditional and the marriage ceremony we had to use full names. Made sense to us to continue using full names the rest of the day.

Do whatever feels more appropriate to you, i doubt anyone will notice whether its Rob or Robert tbh, they'll be too busy having a good time. :-)

I know how you feel! My fiance is Matt to everyone but has a weird preference for Matthew when it's written - except when it's "Matt and Vicky" (I'm never Victoria, except on the invites....). Could they be more awkward!

I would say make a decision and stick with it - consistency is probably the best policy. It might depend on the sort of wedding - formal/informal?

    Good luck! :)

My name is usually shortened but im the same- in written form I like my full name!

Ive already decided our name cards are going to say Mr H and Mrs H, as Im just so excited about being Mrs H that I want it used as much as possible on the day!!:rotfl:

Do you ever call him Robert? if you dont then I think I would go with Rob- but its completely up to you and how formal you want to be.

How about "Mr R Bloggs - Groom" or even just "The Groom"
  • I'm wondering the same thing - not for myself or H2B, as George can't be shortened, and although I'm occasionally called Fi, it's not very often!

A lot of our guests use shortened forms of their names, and I haven't decided whether to put full names or abbreviations on invites and placecards

I don't think it matters much in the end, it's really just down to personal preference, and how formal you want things to feel. If he's always known as Rob then I would lean towards using that.

On this note- what do u put for grandparents? Or parents come to that?! I guess you can put mother if the bride etc, but surely u don't put that with grandparents? I have 2 grandads, between us we have 2 grannys etc. it also seems too casual to put granny... But actually names just seem weird too!

We put Rob rather than Robert on most of the stuff as that's the neam he goes by.
Ask your Rob what he would prefer!

I've never called him Robert and to be honest it feels really strange calling him anything other than Rob. I'm am a little worried that during the ceremony I call him Rob instead of Robert.

For my parents and grandparents I am using their names.

I did ask him, he said he wasn't bothered either way, he's so laid back at times it annoys me

I think I'll use either bride and groom or Mr F and Mrs F on the table plans and name cards and then on the favours have Lisa and Rob.:)

    thanks everyone :D

I have never called my H2B by his full name, and to be honest couldn't ever imagine doing so. I never knew you had to use the 'full' name during a wedding. In fact thinking of the last wedding I went to the groom said Jo instead of Joanne (catholic wedding, maybe different?).

All invites, thanks you etc will be in his shortened name (mine too) I don't think people would know us as our 'real' names.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
